Rep. Seth Grove

Dear Rep. Grove,

I am writing to you as a constituent to ask for your support as a co-sponsor of the Pennsylvania Safe Schools (PASS) Act, HB 156.

School bullying is a serious form of violence that negatively impacts thousands of young Pennsylvanians. In order to become successful, contributing members of society, students must be safe and protected in our public schools. Pennsylvania currently has one of the weakest safe schools laws in the nation, which is why I am urging you to co-sponsor the PASS Act.

Students who are targeted for repeated physical and verbal harassment experience harmful academic and psychological consequences. Additionally, student aggressors who do not receive positive behavior support are more likely to perpetrate domestic violence and criminal activities later in life. These negative actions directly interfere with student learning and threaten the well-being of Pennsylvania students every day.

In order to ensure the basic safety of all students in our district, and throughout the commonwealth, the PASS Act must be adopted to provide students and school staff with a clear and accessible way to report incidents. We need the PASS Act to give our educators the opportunity to be trained in effectively identifying and intervening in cases of bullying.

When students are safeguarded against violence, our communities are strengthened with respect and mutual regard. Until comprehensive legislation is adopted by way of the PASS Act, countless students will continue to suffer.

Please support meaningful safe schools legislation by co-sponsoring the PASS Act, and voting in favor of the legislation in the House Education Committee when it comes to the House floor.
